Too Fat to Graduate

In a small university in Pennsylvania called Lincoln people are split it half by a choice the school has decided to support. The health department has implied a new rule on which students graduate each year , but not based on their grade point average. Starting in 2006 the university has set a rule for people with unhealthy BMI’s or body mass index to take classes. If you BMI is not healthy enough, you must take a course in order to graduate. The college is split in half by this because school is a place for education not for health. Some students argue to say it’s not far but others seem to think maybe it will cut the obesity level in half. Professors at the university explained that they implied this to cut the obesity rate in their school. I think this idea is a good one because some people need that extra motivation to get into shape, and not to mention it’s not very healthy. Weight problems can lead to a number of issues including diabetes to disorders with your nerves. I think Lincoln University is doing their job in society and more schools should join the fight against obesity.

The Abyss

As I fell asleep I drifted into another world. I landed in a house which was not my own and I was alone. The house was dark as night and I was scared half to death.  I bent down and touched the floor but, what I found was grass and not wood. I began to walk on the wet earthy floor not realizing where this house might be. I heard a brush amongst the grass and called to see if anyone were near. “ Is anyone there, I am scared, and I need help.” As I waited for a response I heard steps approaching me.  As I felt the breathe of the stranger on my neck I began to ran in any direction in the dark abyss of the house. I ran into a wall turned and found a knob. I twisted the knob and felt something slimy on my fingers, as I ran I smelt the aroma of caramel and realized that might be what was on my hand. The creature chasing me persisted but now, not only running towards me it was yelling at me.  My heart began to race almost as fast as my legs trying to get out of this strange nightmare.  I was beginning to lose my breathe and my legs were starting to give out. SLURP! I ran into what I thought was a wall but while I ran screaming from the monster I got a mouth full of jell-o.  As I ran through the jello wall the villain persisted behind me grabbing my legs. Up against the wall the villain was screaming in some foreign language. It felt as if I had ear muffs on and couldn’t understand what they were trying to say.  Corned by this evil villain which I could still not see, it pushed me through the jello wall. I was falling back into a black abyss of emptiness till my eyes opened. I was in my bed with my mom shaking my upper chest telling me tell wake up. I was dreaming of my mom waking me out of a dark sleep and as I fell through I began to awaken. Funny things happen when big villans try to wake you up.

10 Things that Make Me Laugh

Top Ten Things

that make me laugh the most
  • Kevin Hart by far is one of the top ten things or people to make me laugh. His jokes are just so outrageous to the point where I can’t breathe because of his humor. Watching his stand up events on YouTube is something I do on a rainy day to cheer myself up.
  • When I first met Anthony Ferrentino I knew he was somewhat of a jokester. As the month of September passed, I found myself daily laughing at things he would say or do. I appreciate it a lot because when I’m feeling bad or upset he’ll say anything to make me smile.
  • Shannon Rennie , there is really nothing else to say about her because she is just one of the greatest things ever. I love the fact that she can just sing Disney classics all day like its her job and everyone joins in. When our team is having a bad day or someone gets hurt somehow Shannon says something that just makes everything a whole lot better. I have personally grown really close with Shannon and her humor is just one of the great features to her.
  • My team is one of the main things that make me laugh the most. Every time we are all put in a room together someone is either singing, dancing, rolling on the floor, or tickling someone. We are all a big family unit and we travel in the unit throughout the year. The greatest moments happen during practice. Sometimes, the Disney classics get so out of hand our coaches join in with us. Once, we had a sleepover at Gina’s house with all 15 girls. We did not go to sleep till after 1am when we had pep rally the next morning. We stayed up all night singing, making posters, giving each other ridiculous nick names, and then went to sleep by the sere-nation of Shannon Rennie.
  • My friends really make me smile throughout the day. In english class, when we all disagree on something we all tend to back each other up 100%.  Amanda, Megan, Melissa, and myself also tend to complete each others thoughts. When people complete my sentences I find that really funny.
  • Babies make me laugh the most on top of everything. On YouTube there is a video of a little Asian baby singing Hey Jude. Every time I get a free break from school and cheering I will watch that movie.
  • My dad is one strange individual. He is a very smart man, but sometimes he just doesn’t know what to say or describe things. As I was about to leave for a party Saturday night, he wanted to talk to me about my outfit. I was wearing heals, and he looked at me and just smiled. When I asked him what are you smiling at, he looks and says my booger is growing up so fast in big girl shoes. Stuff like that still gets me every time.
  • My grandfather is just one of those people quick with making jokes. As we were in his hospital room his nurse came to shut off his light. When she said, ” Goodnight Anthony.” He turned and responded to her, ” If you turn off the light, I won’t be able to see you!” We all just laughed because no matter how sick he was, he always had a smart mouth.
  • I have two little cousins Kiara and Alexa who are out of this world. I can say they are mini me’s of myself. They are so smart is scary sometimes what they know. I remember once at dinner, Alexa argued to the point she broke out a book and looked it up. To see a 6 year old look up a book is pretty funny to me.
  • Another thing that makes me laugh is awkward silence. When it gets really quiet my friends tend to make it even more awkward by doing something strange. I am very loud and tend to act out with friends. Being with a group of my friends is like igniting a fire. Once one of us laughs, we’re all giggling up a storm.

Glaciers are the iPhone’s New Best Friend

The World of Technology

In London England a man by the name of Kaspar Meuli has let out one of the most interesting apps for Apple’s iPhone. This app was “developed by the Oeschger Center for Climate Change Research at the University of Bern in Switzerland and Swiss software company.” ( Knight 1) This “Jungfrau Climate Guide is an interactive guide to glaciers and climate change.” (Knights1)  For example, if you are standing on and or near a glacier you can pull up the app on your phone and look at the history of where your standing, what it looked like years ago, and why it has changed so drastically. Not only does it give you information, it supplies colored images and video/audio giving you more knowledge about the Swiss Alps.  For the small fee of $19.00’s you can own this app year round on your iPod.

Freshman For a Day , Gael For a Lifetime

In the eighth grade I looked at many different  high schools in Bergen County. My top three choices were IHA, AHA, and Saint Mary’s.  As I visited these schools I visited Saint Mary last out of my choices. When I came to Saint Mary’s for a day with Natalie I saw it was small but, as I went throughout the day there is really nothing small about it. The spirit of the school, how much each teacher cares for each student, and the work and effort put into making the school a good Catholic Education was tremendous.  After my Gael for a day I realized after one day I wanted to invest the next four years there. Now, I am in my sophomore year and I am proud to call myself a Saint Mary Gael!

One of the most important aspects of any school is the spirit represented in it. Saint Mary is a very traditional spirited school in my opinion. Today, is the pep rally and being a cheerleader we had many duties to for fill for this occasion. Throughout our school today will be signs for captains of teams and also signs inspiring people to get out and to support their fellow Gael athletes. I think that school spirit is both a fun and good Catholic thing to participate in. Cheering your school on makes you not only good in the eye of God but also, it shows how much you really care.
